A. Weckman Oy, based in Heinola, Finland, has been manufacturing high-quality, durable truck trailers, mainly timber trailers, since 1968. The company is led by owner and CEO Matti Heiman.
A. Weckman Oy specializes in designing and manufacturing truck trailers. Known for their quality and durability, A. Weckman trailers are tailored to meet various transport needs, such as timber hauling, transporting long goods, and containerized cargo. The company offers a comprehensive “turnkey” solution for its customers, including all necessary fittings and features. In addition to manufacturing new trailers, they also refurbish older ones.
The company produces approximately 30 truck trailers annually, most of which are fixed-frame timber trailers, extendable trailers, or models equipped with transfer axles. A. Weckman Oy also provides subcontracted painting services for other companies.
The roots of A. Weckman Oy trace back to the late 1950s and early 1960s when the Weckman brothers began producing agricultural trailers and timber trucks. In 1968, Aulis Weckman established A. Weckman ja Kumppanit Oy in Heinola. Over time, Aulis’s sons Veli-Matti and Hannu joined the company.
Veli-Matti Weckman founded Telivaunu Ky (renamed Telivaunu Weckman Oy in 1995), focusing on manufacturing special-purpose trailers and equipping timber trailers with electrical and braking systems. Later, timber trailer production was centralized under Telivaunu Weckman.
Today, A. Weckman Oy operates under CEO Matti Heiman, who joined the company in 1995. In 2016, Heiman purchased the business operations of Telivaunu Weckman Oy and A. Weckman Oy from Veli-Matti Weckman, merging the operations under the A. Weckman Oy name.
A. Weckmantruck trailers are subjected significant mechanical and chemical exposure during use. Mechanical wear occurs from moving stakes and and from rocks flying off the road and hitting the trailer, while road salt exposes to corrosion.
To ensure a durable and stylich looking finish, A. Weckman Oy uses high-quality industrial coatings from Nor-Maali Oy. The paint system includes three layers: Epocoat 21 Primer as a primer, Normadur 65 HS as a topcoat, and Normatop Clear lacquer for the final finish.
A. Weckman Oy invests heavily in surface preparation before painting. CEO Matti Heiman emphasizes that issues with paint surfaces typically stem from poorly executed surface preparation, which is why the company prioritizes steel shot blast cleaning and other pre-treatment processes.
For enhanced corrosion resistance, Normazinc SE can be applied beneath the Epocoat 21 Primer. This zinc rich epoxy coating prevents rust progression even if the paint layer is damaged by impacts. Although some customers avoid zinc coatings due to added weight that reduces payload capacity, those who try it often choose it for subsequent trailers.
Normatop Clear lacquer provides a high-gloss, weather-resistant surface, perfectly suited for A. Weckman’s demanding products. The hard, glossy finish simplifies cleaning and is applied using a small size nozzle for precision and optimal film thickness on complex structures.
Heiman explains that A. Weckman Oy has tested products from various suppliers, but their current paint system has proven to be the best fit. The three-layer system ensures complete coverage, while the paints’ ability to go around the edges and reduce rust risks at corners is highly valued. Nor-Maali’s products also facilitate painting complex shapes without sagging.
Nor-Maali’s products are reliable and readily available. Heiman appreciates the excellent and swift service, ensuring that coatings are available without production interruptions. With only a 30-kilometer distance between the companies, A. Weckman picks up the coatings themselves. Orders are placed during the drive from Heinola to Lahti, and the paints are ready for collection upon arrival.
