More EPDs for Nor-Maali´s Water-borne Coatings

6/6/2024

Nor-Maali´s water-borne products Epocoat Aqua Primer and Norecryl Aqua DTM have received  EPDs (Environmental Product Declaration)s. Before this, from Nor-Maali´s products, water-borne Norepox Aqua DTM and seven solvent-based coatings had the EPD.

EPD-products

Nor-Maali’s nine products now have Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs): water-borne Epocoat Aqua Primer, Norecryl Aqua DTM and Norepox Aqua DTM, and the solvent-based NorECOat FD Primer, NorECOat HS Primer, Noreguard HS, Norepox HS, Normafine 40 HS, Normafine 80, and Normadur 65 HS.

Water-borne products

Epocoat Aqua Primer is epoxy primer that combines first-class technical properties and environmental friendliness. The product is designed to be used as a primer in corrosion classes C3-C5 (ISO 12944-2). It can be used with both water-borne and solvent-based topcoats. Two layer paint system Epocoat Aqua Primer + Norepox Aqua DTM reaches the corrosion class C5M with a total paint film of 180 µm. As one coat system, Epocoat Aqua Primer reaches C3M corrosion class with 80 µm DFT.

Norecryl Aqua DTM is 2-component acrylic coating that combines the corrosion resistance of epoxies with the weather resistance of polyurethanes. This environmentally friendly direct-to-metal coating also ensures user safety as it doesn´t contain isocyanates. Norecryl Aqua DTM is designed as a direct-to-metal (DTM) coating for corrosion classes C2-C3. The product reaches corrosion class C3-M with a 120 µm DFT, making it an excellent choice for painting machinery and equipment and general steel structures.

Norepox Aqua DTM is a fast-drying epoxy coating with a low VOC content. The product contains rust preventing pigments and is recommended to use as a primer, topcoat or direct-to-metal coating in epoxy paint systems in environmental classes C2-C4. Norepox Aqua is easy to spray and it forms a very smooth surface. Norepox Aqua DTM is M1 classified.

Solvent-based products

Among Nor-Maali’s solvent-based epoxy coatings, NorECOat FD Primer, NorECOat HS Primer, Noreguard HS and Norepox HS have received EPDs. All four products are high volume solids and they dry fast even at low temperatures. NorECOat FD Primer and NorECOat HS Primer are primers, and Noreguard HS and Norepox HS are topcoats and direct-to-metal coatings.

Among Nor-Maali’s solvent-based polyurethane coatings, Normafine 40 HS, Normafine 80 and Normadur 65 HS have received EPDs. All three coatings are high volume solids and contain rust preventing pigments.

Environmental Product Declaration

EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) is a standardized (EN 15804+A2 & ISO 14025 / ISO 21930) report that objectively presents what a product is made of and how it impacts the environment throughout its lifecycle. EPD provides information about a product’s carbon footprint (Global Warming Potential) as well as its environmental effects on air, soil, and water bodies.

EPDs are voluntary, but their use is growing rapidly in the construction industry in line with awareness about environmental impacts. EPDs support the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by making it possible to compare the impacts of different materials and products in order to select the most sustainable option. A verified EPD can earn certification credits for green building schemes like BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).

Nor-Maali’s Normafine 40 HS – A Reliable Choice for Colder Conditions

31/10/2024 As autumn cools down and winter approaches, it's good to consider which coatings best suit for industrial painting in cold conditions. Cold weather can pose challenges for painting and often increases costs, but with the right product selection, significant savings can be achieved without compromising quality. The drying temperature of the paint and the number of coating layers directly impact the process's cost-efficiency. In this context, Nor-Maali’s Normafine 40 HS is an excellent choice—a high-solids polyurethane coating that cures even in low temperatures and functions effectively as a direct-to-metal coating solution.
