Nor-Maali´s high solids NorECOat HS Primer – a more sustainable choice also for immersion

24/2/2022

Nor-Maali’s high solids epoxy primer NorECOat HS Primer is an ideal coating to enhance efficiency and sustainability in your painting process.  With Nor-Maali’s NorECOat HS you can paint objects requested to have corrosivity category/durability range up to Im1 and lm2 very high.

More environmentally friendly epoxy primer

NorECOat HS Primer is a two-component, semimatt epoxy primer.  Its high volume solids (78%) ensures a low VOC content (190 g / L) – a safer option for both the environment and user.

In addition, NorECOat HS Primer is utilizing technology based on a natural, non-food chain raw-material feed stock.  By thorough testing and formulation work, content of this biomaterial can be from 30 to 60 % in the paint component composition, resulting in a significant reduction in the proportion of fossil materials.

Protects against corrosion, also in immersed environments

NorECOat HS Primer is designed for painting both steel structures and machinery and equipment. It is used as a primer or midcoat in epoxy paint systems in environmental classes C2-C5. This MIO-pigmented epoxy coating is suitable for frameworks of industry buildings, pipe bridges, conveyors and structural constructions of process industry. NorECOat HS Primer can be overcoated with polyurethane paints.

NorECOat HS Primer has also been tested for immersion categories. In tests according to ISO 12944-6: 2018, the product was approved for fresh water (Im1) and sea water (Im2) immersion. NorECOat HS Primer is suitable for both High and Very High durability ranges under both categories.

Approved systems:

Corrosivity category / durability range System
Im1 high 2 x 200 µm DFT
Im1 very high 3 x 200 µm DFT
Im2 high 2 x 250 µm DFT
Im2 very high 3 x 200 µm DFT

These immersion systems can also be found on the ISO 12944-5 Paint systems -page.

Cost effective painting process, even in lower temperatures

NorECOat HS Primer brings savings to the painting process in several ways. As a high solids product the paint consumption is less – the desired dry film thickness is achieved with lower wet film thickness. Thanks to this feature the entire production process is accelerated and is faster.

NorECOat HS Primer dries quickly. It can be recoated with same type of paint after 2 hours and with polyurethane coatings after 3 hours.  Together with our new NoreFast HS the painting process can be even further accelerated. Topcoat NoreFast HS is dry to handle at room temperature in one hour without elevated room temperature for drying: energy consumption is also reduced.

NorECOat HS Primer can also be used at lower temperatures as it cures down to +5°C. Low temperature is therefore not an obstacle to spraying. Epoxy coatings based on other technologies often require a minimum temperature of +10°C.

WHY NORECOAT HS PRIMER?

  • MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY OPTION – HIGH VOLUME SOLIDS, LOWER VOC EMISSIOS
  • GREENER CHOICE – TECHNOLOGY IS BASED ON RENEWABLE NATURAL MATERIALS
  • EXCELLENT CORROSION RESISTANCE – EPOXY PRIMER THAT PROTECTS AGAINST CORROSION. ALSO FOR IMMERSION.
  • FAST DRYING – FAST OVERCOATING INTERVAL, FASTER PRODUCTION
  • CURES AT LOW TEMPERATURES – THE PRODUCT CAN BE PAINTED DOWN TO +5°C

Nor-Maali’s Normafine 40 HS – A Reliable Choice for Colder Conditions

31/10/2024 As autumn cools down and winter approaches, it's good to consider which coatings best suit for industrial painting in cold conditions. Cold weather can pose challenges for painting and often increases costs, but with the right product selection, significant savings can be achieved without compromising quality. The drying temperature of the paint and the number of coating layers directly impact the process's cost-efficiency. In this context, Nor-Maali’s Normafine 40 HS is an excellent choice—a high-solids polyurethane coating that cures even in low temperatures and functions effectively as a direct-to-metal coating solution.
